OK, you’ll all be very happy to know I conquered the technology problem I was having the other day.  I still can’t tell you what the project is, and I can’t take all the credit for solving the problem as Husby and Charlotte helped me with ideas, but there’s nothing better than figuring out something you know nothing about.  I had to figure it out by trial and error too, because by now manufacturers of technology devices assume everyone knows the most basic concepts of technology and those concepts aren’t covered in the instructions.  I believe, however, that I learn and retain things much better with the trial and error method, even though it’s frustrating and takes a long time.

In other news this week I’ve been spending some time in Craftland pouring candles like mad.  I was thinking about the time I put into that project too, which is a lot.  But you know what?  I really like doing it.  I screwed up a beeswax candle yesterday, but that’s the beauty of wax.  Just remelt and pour again!

And then there’s this other thing I have to tell you about.  You know the photo site Flickr?  Every time I get on that site a song comes into my head.  Flickr sounds a lot like Flipper, doesn’t it?  That’s right, the theme song to the ’60s TV show gets into my head the minute I log into Flickr and doesn’t go away.  Like, ever.   Then I get all discombobulated because the song is so…untrue.

They call him Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightning*
No one you see, is smarter** than he***
And we know Flipper lives in a world full of wonder****

Flying***** there under, under the sea!******

*  A dolphin is not capable of swimming faster than lightening.  I’m just saying.

** I’m pretty sure Einstein was smarter than a fish. (OK, I know dolphins are mammals, but guess what? I bet Flipper doesn’t know that, so I guess even I’m smarter than Flipper.)

*** The dolphin that played Flipper was, in fact, a female.

**** I’m on board with this line.

***** Flipper swims and doesn’t fly. Everyone knows that.

****** When swimming under the water are you in fact under the sea? In the sea I can agree with. But if you were “under” the sea wouldn’t you be in the core of the earth and therefore being burned up by the magma contained therein?

So now, because I’ve incorporated the photo of this post from my Flickr account I’ll be thinking of this song all week.  And now I’m going to make you think of this song for at least a week, because I’m kind of mean and hateful that way.

Happy Monday, everyone!

Married life can get pretty dull sometimes…for some people.  I’m one of the lucky ones; my husband keeps me entertained nearly every minute I’m with him.

The other day Husby was gracious enough to allow me to record one of his talents, a talent I didn’t even know he had!  I don’t think he knew he had the talent either, so I guess this makes him kind of an idiot savant?  With that, I present the magnificent performance of Husby, and his musical clothespins.

Here’s to a week of finding amusement in the little things.

P.S.  Husby refuses compensation for his performances, but he does read the blog.  If you have any words of praise, please feel free to leave them in the comments.

Back Home Again

It’s been quite a while since I’ve written anything here, or anywhere else for that matter.  I’ve been on the road for business and pleasure, but now I’m back home and have no excuse for not checking in once in a while.  Except for the fact that I have to catch up on everything I’ve not been doing for the past week and a half.

First of all I want to give a shout out to Lisa and John from Fond du Lac.  I don’t know if they’re peeking in at all, but I sure appreciated them coming up to my booth at the Olde Ellison Bay Days art and craft show and introducing themselves.  It’s so much fun to meet people who read my blog; it makes me feel less invisible in the vastness of cyberspace.  Lisa and John are really fun people and Husby and I were thrilled to make their acquaintance and chat with them for a while.

I’ll be talking about our visit to the Door County peninsula more this week, as well as my experience making actual physical contact with Tony Shalhoub.  I’ll also clue you in on what I did to celebrate our country’s independence and Paenney’s birthday.

For now I have to concentrate on what needs to be done this week.  There will be house cleaning, car washing, restocking product for my next craft show, and of course lots of laundry.  More than anything I’m looking forward to catching up with the blog posts I’ve missed while I was away.

And for a little blast from the past I’m sharing a song with the same title as this post.  I was completely in love with John Denver oh so many years ago.

Every Friday night when I wasn’t at First Avenue, the premiere danceteria in Minneapolis, I’d watch Miami Vice.  It seems like only yesterday, but that was nearly thirty years ago.  But I’m not here to discuss how old I am.  I want to enlighten or remind you (depending on your age) how much fun the ’80s were, and how flippin’ cool Sonny Crockett was.

Don JohnsonI remember the leggings, padded shoulders, rolled up jacket sleeves and asymmetrical hair styles with a smile.  Miami Vice was a very dated show featuring music and fashion of the time, and quite frankly the way Sonny Crockett rolled his cigarette on his tongue before he lit it was about the sexiest thing I ever saw.  His signature accessory was the Wayfarer shades.  Of course I had a pair too, because anyone who wanted to look über cool had to have some.

Over the years fashions changed, hair styles changed, and everyone came to realize that Miami Vice was actually a pretty bad show when it came to writing and acting.  But the ’80s will always have a special place in my heart because those were the times I was young and free.  Those were the times I could wear anything I wanted and look great, and get outrageous haircuts.  Those were the days I used my Wayfarers as a mask, but also a prop for flirtation.

These days I’m not so young and not so free.  I’ve got responsibilities and I have to choose clothes carefully to flatter my less-than-firm physique.  But guess what?  I just bought a new pair of Wayfarers.  Oh sure, they have prescription lenses complete with bifocals, but they’re as cool as ever.  And you can count on the fact I’ll use them as a prop to flirt with Husby.

Ever since I bought my new shades I’ve had a song in my head that takes me back to those carefree summer nights of the ’80s.  The girl in the song, as the lyrics tell us, wears Wayfarers too ~ all the cool ones do.  Have a click on the link below and get a blast of summertimes past.

Tonight I’ll be attending the 2013 commencement ceremony for the seniors of DeLaSalle High School. One of those seniors is my nephew, Fojo. In honor of him and his undying passion for fishing I’m featuring my Fish Head Bottle Cap Magnet, available at my Etsy shop. Congratulations, Fojo. Here’s wishing you a fabulous summer of fishing!
