Archive for the ‘A Visit To The Shop’ Category

It’s a dreary day at the Auntie B’s Wax World Headquarters.  The dark, grey sky keeps spitting ice pellets, making the sidewalks and streets look like they’re coated with kosher salt.  I love days like this.  But I’d probably opt for plain rain rather than ice this time of year.

It’s a perfect day to play on the computer.  I’m in a big green chair facing the window out to the back yard, the laptop warming my legs.  I’ve been catching up some blog reading and writing the usual e-mails back and forth to Charlotte.  Seriously, I don’t know any two sisters who can talk/write to each other more than Charlotte and I.

Coconut Lime Verbena Paraffin Pillar Candle

One thing that’s sort of new at the World Headquarters is that I’ve reopened my Etsy shop.  The shop was on vacation for quite a while, but I’ve been slowly adding things to the listings and everything shown is up for sale.

There are candles, drink charms and magnets.  The most exciting thing of all is that in the days to come I’ll be adding some never-before-seen products; I just have to get over the photography hump on that.  I’ve been experimenting with the camera and my new items, but the lack of sunshine and natural light coming into the windows these days is making it difficult.

Mr. Margate’s Mermaid – Pulp Fiction Magnet

It matters not.  There are plenty of existing items I can keep adding to the shop.  Right now there aren’t many, but I’ll be adding a few listings every day, whether they be new or existing products.

Wish me luck with the photo shoots!  I’m not a professional.

Ferris and Friends – Drink Charms Set of 6

You can keep up with new listings on Facebook or Twitter.  I invite you to visit the shop too!  I’m excited about getting back into the swing of things.

One night I was with some friends and we got to talking about the apocalypse. One friend talked about the Bible version, you know, with the four horsemen and all that. The rest of us were focused on the zombie apocalypse because we’re not as smart or holy as that other girl, but are very hip to pop culture. It’s all the rage, you know, the zombie apocalypse ~ the undead stalking humanity, eating brains and stuff ~ our friend was getting a little frustrated with our flippant view of the apocalypse. What frustrated me was that I couldn’t pronounce the word apocalypse. It kept coming out alpacalypse.

My muse took a liking to my mispronunciation. The zombie alpacalypse. Zombie alpacas. I love alpacas, and the thought of a zombie alpaca horrifies me. It’s sort of like those killer bunnies in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Gentle animals gone stark raving mad! Musie told me to run with it.

I don’t know if anyone else is as cracked-up with this weirdness as I am ~ after all it was inspired during an evening of much laughter and a little too much wine. But as you know, art (ha!) is at the mercy of the muse no matter when, where, or in what state of mind it strikes. And so my “art” was born.

Not only is this magnet displayed loudly and proudly on my refrigerator, I decided to put more like it up for sale in my Etsy shop on the off chance others have a fear or fascination with zombie alpacas. It’s all about sharing, you guys.

Happy weekend to you all.

Sandalwood is known for its calming properties, is deeply grounding, and useful for chakra work.  The fragrance instills inner peace and is helpful in cases of stress, depression, and low self-esteem.  It’s also been considered an aphrodesiac.

That’s all very mystical and spiritual (and also a little sexy, I guess) but the thing I like best about sandalwood is that it smells really good.  Of the “earthy” scents it’s my favorite, and it seems to be a favorite of my customers too.  Lucky for you I have two in my Etsy shop.

Another Asian Sandalwood candle made of all-natural palm wax ~ this time in an earthy green. Again, click the pic to fly directly to the listing in my Etsy shop.

Check out more all-natural palm wax candles in a variety of colors and fragrances in my shop.  If you’re interested in more of something or something completely different, let me know and I’ll do my best to create a custom candle, or set of candles, for you.

Real cowboys always wear Wranger jeans. And everyone knows girls go nuts for Wrangler butts.

The Cowboys drink charms have been a top seller since I started making them and are popular with men and women alike.  At one craft show there was a boy about fourteen or fifteen years old with a set of the Cowboys drink charms in his hands, looking thoughtfully at all the images.  His mom wondered why he was so interested in them.  He looked at her and said “I’m going to buy these for Grandma – she loves cowboys!”  I guess even grandmas go nuts for Wrangler butts.  Party on, partner!

Find the Cowboys Drink Charms Set of 6 at Auntie B’s Wax. If they’re sold out let me know – I can make more! Click the pic to fly to the listing in my Etsy shop.

Tonight I’ll be attending the 2013 commencement ceremony for the seniors of DeLaSalle High School. One of those seniors is my nephew, Fojo. In honor of him and his undying passion for fishing I’m featuring my Fish Head Bottle Cap Magnet, available at my Etsy shop. Congratulations, Fojo. Here’s wishing you a fabulous summer of fishing!
