Me = Auntie B. My real name is Sara, but when one of my nephews was learning about rhyming words my name somehow morphed into Bee. For the last eighteen years or so I’ve been known as Auntie B, B, and even Beehead (most common, I’m afraid) in my family. When I began my little candlemaking/crafty business it all made sense. Auntie B’s Wax. Get it? And no, I don’t raise my own bees. They sting, you know.
I’ve been pouring candles for over two decades. Auntie B’s Wax been an official crafty biz for about twelve years. You can find my wares on Etsy, and even more of them when you come to visit me at any of the craft shows, festivals, and events I’m at throughout the year (see Events page).
My age isn’t important, but I’ll say I’m old enough to know a few things and young immature enough to laugh at fart jokes.
I live with the adoring and supportive Husby. We have no children and no pets, although we have daydreams of owning alpacas, sheep, and goats someday. If only we could convince the city officials to let us keep them in our back yard.
My favorite movie is Harold and Maude, my favorite musicians are Mike Oldfield, Jean Michel Jarre, Cat Stevens and Queen. I like to cook but don’t do it nearly as often as I want, and the same is true with routine household cleaning. Homekeeping is about the most important work anyone can do I think, because as Dorothy says: there’s no place like home.
If I could live anywhere in the world it would be next to a very large body of water where all four seasons are very distinct. I’ve become enamored with Lake Michigan. As it is now I live in Minnesota where the seasons are about as distinct as they come and is a stone’s throw to the Great Lakes. Maybe someday I’ll live right next to one of those lakes, but only if I can have alpacas, sheep, and goats.
As for my little business I make candles from beeswax, palm wax, and paraffin. Also in my repertoire are drink charms and magnets which allow me to express not only heart-warming nostalgia but also smutty naughtiness. I believe there’s a little of that in all of us. My business has become a joy for me and I’m so humbly honored when someone thinks enough of my work to spend money on it.
This blog is meant to leave a trail of where I’ve been, tune up my writing skills, stay current with technology, promote my business, and perhaps entertain and amuse you. Please never be too shy to leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you.
One of my favorite movies is Harold and Maude! I’ve watched that opening scene over and over. I love it. Thanks for following my blog! 😀

Hello…
I was recently ‘told off’ by a blogger (not a follower I might add), who said my style of ‘welcome’ note was very much against blogging etiquette. Hmm, well I hope not to cause offence, but as you volunteered to become a follower of Uncle Spike’s Adventures, I just wanted to catch up and say “thank you, and that I appreciate your ‘follow’ as there are so many interesting and entertaining blogs out there.
Blogging since June 2013, my aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on our farm in Turkey. Oh, plus a few observations, opinions and lighter-hearted stuff thrown in for good measure.
I normally keep to a couple of posts a day, maybe 3-4 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process. That’s not me trying to be pushy or ‘spamming’, but just want you to know what I’m all about.
Thanks again and hope you have a great day…
UNCLE SPIKE
Hello! I saw your candles at ArtZ in Amery. I am the creative director at Farm Table Foundation (former Hungry Turtle Institute). I am working on curating an exhibit entitled, “Much Ado About Bees” and was wondering if you’d be interested in showing some of your natural beeswax candles.
The exhibit will be installed on May 30th, 2017. If you’d be interested, please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to provide further information.
Sincerely,
Jessica Turtle
