This month I’m doing a 30-day song challenge following the prompts given by Donna from MyOBT, one of my favorite blogs. It sounded like so much fun I couldn’t resist. Feel free to join in on your social media platform, add your picks in the comments below, or simply enjoy (hopefully) the music I’ve chosen.

I never knew my heart could be broken…until that one day.

My little brother died in 2006.

Charlotte and I chose this as one of the songs to be played as a backdrop to the video tribute to Diggy at his funeral. The story behind the song is as long as his life was short. Suffice it to say, sleep well, Diggy.

Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results…Albert Einstein

I’ve been toiling over my writing lately and haven’t been very successful with 1) my novel and 2) my blogging. Instead of forcing myself to do something that hasn’t been working for me lately I decided to do something else this evening.  I stayed away from the screens.

Once begun is half done…Mary Poppins

Instead of agonizing in front of the computer or zoning out in front of the TV I did something completely different.  I baked some cookies.  On a work night!

Husby and I sampled the cookies and they were pretty dang good.  Not only did I make the cookies, I cleaned up the kitchen until it sparkled, and it felt really good.

There is no motivator like success…Charlotte Trout, aka Glinda

Yep, getting out of the rut of well-intentioned but nonproductive activities is a good idea sometimes.  Do something completely different when things aren’t working for you.  Bake some cookies and eat them too ~ you’ll find the motivation you’ve been looking for.

WWMPD

Lately, it seems, I’ve been overwhelmed with things to do.  Did I say lately?  My to-do list is always never-ending, as I’m sure is the case with most modern-day women today.  Men too, for that matter.  Not only is it about the to-dos, but also about the metaphysical aspects of life, the act of keeping things in balance, the keeping of my very tenuous mental health.

Sometimes I find myself staring at the screen of my computer, trying to think of what to say to strangers on those convoluted social network sites (social + network = very uncomfortable situation for self-proclaimed hermits) the myriad of tasks, philosophies, cognitive exercises and then more tasks goes whirling through my head.  I know I should be doing something other than staring at the computer screen.  But what?  Then I remember my mentor, my idol, and ask myself WWMPD ~ What Would Mary Poppins Do?

When I face a technological dilemma on the computer, Mary advises me to Step In Time to keep up with the advances.  When I’m just dead on my feet and absolutely sure I can’t do another thing Mary advises me to take a spoonful of sugar for a boost of energy.  When I have no motivation Mary advises “once begun is half done.”  And when I’m running ragged Mary advises me to simply Feed The Birds for a little relaxation and reflectionMary Poppins is practically perfect in every way so why not turn to her when faced with the questions and challenges of life?

In honor of Mary Poppins and her superior example I’ve created a magnet to remind me in times of need, WWMPD ~ What Would Mary Poppins Do?  Because I’ve found this magnet so helpful in my own chaotic and twirly life I’m offering to make one just for you.  Because really?  That’s probably what Mary Poppins would do.

This magnet measures 3 1/2″ X 2 1/2″ and is unbelievably strong.  It’s only $5.00 plus a little extra for shipping.  If you’d like one for yourself you can buy it here.  If you’d like more than one, send me an e-mail at auntiebswax4u@yahoo.com.  I’ll set you up.
