January.  It’s the month I have to think about numbers and spreadsheets and…taxes.  I spent most of Saturday playing with my very specific spreadsheets, making sure they were accurate, so I could print them out for my accountant (Husby).  I also had to make my sales tax submissions to two states, a task that makes me nervous and sweaty every single year.  It’s not that I don’t think I’m doing it correctly, but I’m always a little concerned about making the whole online submission thing work right.  Well, I got my spreadsheets turned in and my sales taxes submitted so I felt pretty good; kind of like a real, live business person.

It’s been a couple of months now since I actively worked on making product.  Lately I’ve been feeling like it just isn’t worth the trouble.  The thought of starting up production again, just the thought, made me bored.  But working with my spreadsheets and seeing the sales I made and where I made them got the fire burning again.  I like what I do, and it’s fun to make what I make.  Over a glass of wine Husby and I started brainstorming about how I can grow my business into other directions and make it more profitable.  Not only is Husby my roadie and accountant, he’s also full of great ideas and inspirations!

January usually starts out as a drudgery for me business-wise, thinking here I go again, doing the same old thing over and over and over.  But when I realize what is and what could be, my motivation and enthusiasm starts up all over again.

Take a look at my shop and let me know what you might like to see listed there.  I’m always open to new ideas.  There will be some new drink charms on the way, and maybe even some candle accessories.  I also have a different plan for marketing my bottle cap magnets.  Be sure to stay tuned, because 2014 might produce some pretty fun suff.

I’ve been meaning to do all sorts of decorating for Christmas and the most I’ve done is light the tree.  Well, two trees actually.  We have a little fake tree in the parlor, right in front of the window that faces the street, and one in the rumpus room which is our main tree.  The fake parlor tree only has lights on it, no ornaments.  The rumpus room tree is the one Husby and I get to look at every day and night.  It’s usually pretty big, and putting lights on it can be challenging.  Right now it, like the parlor tree, only has lights on it.  I haven’t found the time to put on the dozens of ornaments and other embellishments like tinsel.

Pictures never do it justice, do they?

What could be more important than decking the halls this time of year?  Well, there’s this thing that I kind of like to do ~ provide the fun presents people will open on Christmas Day.  The Etsy sales are rolling in on a fairly regular basis these days, and I had to restock my inventory at the gift shop in town.  It’s pretty cool to know that my fun little crafty stuff is worthy of being Christmas presents.

Still, I really should get busy and get some presents for my own people, and decorate my house before Christmas Eve.  And that’s not to mention all the baking I have to do!

But when I think about it, if you’re going to be stressed out it might as well be over something totally worth it, like Christmas!

How are your preparations coming along?

I’m taking a break from my regularly scheduled novel writing to give some gratitude.  First, I’d like to thank those of you who have encouraged me and this novel writing business.  I’ve got ten days to go to complete the NaNoWriMo challenge, which really equates to seven because seriously, how am I supposed to have Thanksgiving plus a craft show the two days following and also write over nearly six thousand words those days?  Your continued encouragement is appreciated.

Me, these days.

Secondly, I’d like to thank Kelly Robinson who is the author of the blog Book Dirt.  She so graciously featured my very fun (and often irreverent and naughty) pulp magnets on her blog.  Her blog is all about books, and she, being a ghostwriter, freelance writer, and essayist, along with working in a bookstore for over sixteen years, knows her books.  And better still she appreciates a good book cover.  I’m flattered that she finds my pulp magnets worthy of mention in her blog, but I must say I still love them myself even after making them for years.  If you’re a lover of writing, a lover of books, or a lover a blogs go and check out Kelly’s blog.

Kelly points out the fact that in my Etsy shop most of the magnets only have “one available.”  I’d like to make it perfectly clear that if anyone wants more than one of a certain kind I’m happy to oblige and will make more.  Afterall, I’m in the business of not only making magnets, but also making my customers happy.

Thank you, Kelly, for such high praise, and the rest of you for your support in my crafting and writing endeavors.  I’ll be back soon, you can be sure.

Sandalwood is known for its calming properties, is deeply grounding, and useful for chakra work.  The fragrance instills inner peace and is helpful in cases of stress, depression, and low self-esteem.  It’s also been considered an aphrodesiac.

That’s all very mystical and spiritual (and also a little sexy, I guess) but the thing I like best about sandalwood is that it smells really good.  Of the “earthy” scents it’s my favorite, and it seems to be a favorite of my customers too.  Lucky for you I have two in my Etsy shop.

Asian Sandalwood candle made from all-natural palm wax in a beautiful blue. Click the pic to transport to the listing in my Etsy shop.

Another Asian Sandalwood candle made of all-natural palm wax ~ this time in an earthy green. Again, click the pic to fly directly to the listing in my Etsy shop.

Check out more all-natural palm wax candles in a variety of colors and fragrances in my shop.  If you’re interested in more of something or something completely different, let me know and I’ll do my best to create a custom candle, or set of candles, for you.
