All right, so October isn’t exactly summer, but the Fall Festival in Sister Bay, WI (held Oct. 12-14) was my last outdoor show of the season.  I had high hopes, hearing from many it is the biggest festival on the peninsula.

Husby and I arrived in Door County on Thursday afternoon and went straight to the site of the craft/art vendor area to set up our canopy and a few props that needed assembly.  We figured getting a jump on the set-up would give us more time to prepare the displays the next morning before the show started.

After setting up the canopy and weighing it down with many weights on all four legs we set off to have a nice little supper of superb seafood chowder and breadsticks at the Cornerstone Pub.  Then we crawled into our cozy little motel bed for a good night’s sleep before the opening of what would be my biggest and best show ever.

The next day we arrived on site at 8:00 a.m., two hours before the show was to begin.  We were greeted by frantic vendor neighbors who were unable to set up their displays.  Why?  Because during the night the mighty wind blowing off of Green Bay took hold of our heavily-weighted canopy and positioned it in the middle of the road, after which someone had moved it into an open space two tents down from our assigned spot.  (How they moved it I’ll never know – there was about eighty pounds of weight on each of the four legs of the canopy.)  I’m grateful someone got it out of the road, but I was certainly surprised to see our canopy was the only one affected by the great winds of Lake Michigan.  Perhaps being from St. Paul, MN we were naive to the power of the autumn weather of Door County and misjudged how much weight was actually needed to keep the canopy in its spot.  Or maybe our assigned spot was really the Burmuda Triangle of Mill Street.

That ocean is Lake Michigan. That hurricane is the wind off the lake. That ship is my canopy. Burmuda Triangle I say!

With the help of our neighbors (craft show neighbors are usually awesome in their helpfulness to those in need ~ it’s a karma thing) we got the canopy back in its assigned spot and set everything else up for the day.

It was a beautiful autumn day.  Sales were tremendous.  Tune in tomorrow to find out what happens after our first very successful day of the Fall Festival.

All right, so I got off easy by creating only one post this week (besides this one).  It was a Wordless Wednesday too ~ what’s the effort in putting up a measly picture?  Don’t bug me, I’ve been busy.

1.  I’ve been failing miserably doing my best to get Halloween magnets up in my Etsy shop and in other assorted venues.  My goal was to have them set up six weeks before Halloween.  So far I’m a week behind.

2.  I had a certain medical procedure that required days of agonizing preparation but resulted in an excellent outcome and a most dreamy drug-induced sleep.

3.  It’s show time again and I’ve been packaging and labeling my little heart out.

Tomorrow I’ll be at the Chateau St. Croix Winery and Vineyard selling my wares.  It’s going to be a beautiful weekend, weatherwise.  Husby and I will be in our little booth, dancing to the music, visiting with our craft show friends, and have a sip or two of wine.  My favorite part of doing live shows is watching people’s reactions to my offerings.

Here’s someone looking at my pulp fiction magnet board. She seems to like it.

When I’m done having fun at the winery I’ll have a few weeks to get ready for what will probably be the biggest and most demanding shows I’ve ever done.  We’ll talk more about that at another time.  For now I’m looking forward to a nice weekend after what has proven to be a very busy week.  Come on over to St. Croix Falls, WI and see me!

Hello all!

This weekend I’ll be embarking upon a new adventure.  A totally new festival venue which I hope proves not only to be a successful business venture, but also a fun weekend for me and my trusty roadie, Husby.

That’s right, Cannon Falls, Minnesota is the destination and a good time for all is the objective. If you’re within a one hundred mile radius and have nothing pressing to do this weekend, come to the park by the river and have some food and wine while you listen to live music and peruse the wares of many talented artisans. It’s gonna be great!

For more information check out this site. Hope to see you there!

I’ve been away from the computer for a while. What? You didn’t notice? Well I missed you and that’s enough.

Husby and I took a little jaunt to the ever-lovely Door County, Wisconsin. I had a show in Ellison Bay (Olde Ellison Bay Days Craft Fair) where we spent a couple of days meeting and greeting customers and fellow vendors. The weather was perfect.

We spent another few days lolling about the peninsula. Husby and I have an affinity for large bodies of water and we have become quite attached to Lake Michigan ~ the Door County peninsula to be precise.

I’ll be posting a little more about our trip, but for now I’m offering a little entertainment. Whenever I’m by the lake this song invariably sneaks into my mind and sticks there for a while. I love it, and although I wasn’t on an island per se, watching the water with this song playing through my head is quite an experience. I hope you enjoy it no matter where you are.

**Caution, Charlotte. It’s “that” song.**

One of the best things about doing the same craft show every year is seeing repeat customers.  Even those who visit every year but don’t buy anything become familiar and are worthy of a Hello!  Good to see you again!

Robert and his friend have been repeat visitors and buyers at my booth at the Chateau St. Croix festivals (spring show and fall show) for several years.  They love my candles and bought some every time they stop by.  A couple of shows ago Robert said he was looking for a chocolate candle like the one he bought the previous year.  He ranted and raved about how it made his bathroom smell like a candy store.  I was sorry to tell him I stopped making chocolate-scented candles.  People loved the scent, but would usually just comment instead of buy.  “Ooh, that smells wonderful!  But if I burn it I’ll just get hungry.”  Robert was sad to hear of the discontinuation and settled for another fragrance.

During the down season, between January and May, I received a small complimentary sample of fragrance oil with an order I placed with my supplier.  The fragrance?  Fudge Brownie.

Of course I thought about Robert right away.  The sample bottle of fragrance oil was enough to scent only two candles.  I decided I’d make them up and when I returned to The Chateau I’d keep them behind the display and pull them out as a surprise for Robert.

Fall, 2011 ~ no Robert.

Spring, 2012 ~ no Robert.

Where are you Robert?  I have the candles of your dreams!

With the disappearance of Robert I have to grapple with the decision of whether or not to try to sell these two chocolate-scented candles at my upcoming shows. What do you think? Hang onto the candles until the Fall Festival at the Chateau St. Croix with the hope that Robert not only shows up but actually buys the candles? Or take them along with me to the Olde Ellison Bay Days show next week with hopes to entice another chocolate candle lover?

What would you do?
