The day job

It takes every ounce of decorum she can muster

To be polite

To be professional

To put up with the competitive, tunnel-visions of the administration

To be a productive cog in the machinery of a social service agency

But Monday through Friday

When the alarm clock rings at 5:00 a.m.

She wakes up screaming

Wordless Wednesday

I’m Blushing

Splendid! Elizabeth Rose nominated me for the Reality Blog Award. We both have an affinity for Door County, Wisconsin and for blogging. She’s rediscovering her love for art and has also published an e-book titled Murder In Death’s Door County. Check out her blog at Elizabeth Rose Mysteries.

Along with this award comes a requirement that I answer these five questions. I’ll do my best.

1.  If you could change one thing what would you change?  Daylight savings time.  There would be no such thing.

2.  If you could have just one book on a deserted island what would it be?  The Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe.

3.  What is one thing that really scares you?  Being on a frozen lake or river, falling through the ice, and not finding my way out, trapped under the ice.

4.  What is one dream you have not completed, and do you think you’ll be able to complete it?  I would like to earn a living with something I’ve created.  Earn a living.   That’s a lot of dough.  And yes, I think I’ll be able to complete that dream.  Maybe.  If I live long enough.

5.  If you could meet any TV or movie star who is still alive, who would it be?  Johnny Depp, most definitely.  And he would love me madly.

Thank you, Elizabeth Rose.  I’ll pass on the award once I’m done basking in it.  Wait, that might be never.  It shall be soon, I promise.

The Neverending Winter

Spring is very late in its arrival this year. I have my first outdoor show in about a month and I wonder if I’m going to have to wear my snow boots and parka. Candles, which people usually reserve for the colder months, will be flying off the shelves if the weather keeps up like this. I feel like lighting a few candles myself as I look outside and see the snow flying in the blustery wind. The geese have arrived for the summer, but I bet they’re sorry they didn’t wait a while more.

I spent part of the weekend pouring some beeswax candles. I really should get them in my Etsy shop, but taking photos for the listings is tripping me up. Photos always trip me up. Taking photos of my products requires a huge amount of motivation and I’ve just not had it in me for a while. Sometimes I think I should take my things to be photographed to someone who knows more about photography than I do, and who doesn’t need the motivation to take pictures like I do, but who can afford a professional? These are the times I would be willing to trade, services for products. Is there anyone out there who would be willing to do that?

Making the beeswax candles was enough for me this weekend. I sold out at a show last November when a woman bought every single beeswax candle I had on my table. I have to stock up because as I mentioned before, my first show is in about a month. Maybe the photo bug will bite me in the meantime. Until then, Etsy will just have to wait.

The Macy’s Flower Show

You got a little sneak peek of today’s post with yesterday’s Wordless Wednesday.  Last week I went to the Macy’s Flower Show with Charlotte and our parents.  It was just what we needed to get into the spirit of spring.

This isn’t going to be an educational post concerning species and their maintenance ~ I don’t know much about flowers and plants except that they’re pretty and most of them smell good.   So just sit back and enjoy the sights.

This is what greeted us as we entered the flower show venue.

So many oranges and yellows ~ my favorite!

Lovely and fragrant hyacinth.

The ceilings were adorned with these colorful umbrellas.

I’ve never seen flowers like this before. They need to be placed up high so you can see the blooms as they droop downward.

A little, bitty pineapple.

A blurry but beautiful gardenia.

We had a very nice time at the flower show and even walked through it twice.  It gave us a feeling of spring even though there’s still more snow in our forecast this week.  I’m chilled to the bone by now and am looking forward to some warmer weather.  The flower show managed to put a little hope into my heart.
