Reflection
Winter has arrived in Minnesota. The snow remains on the ground since the first flakes fell at 3:15 a.m. Monday morning. How would I know the first flakes fell at that particular moment? I stayed awake all night to witness it.
Cold air moves in, snow flies, ice forms, and I love to cozy into my favorite chair under a handmade afghan with a good book (or a laptop) in front of a crackling fire. These are the months of reflection for me. The annual nesting instinct takes over. It’s the time of year when the kitchen is filled with the aromas of freshly baked bread (thanks to Husby), bubbling stews and the delights of sweet cookies and cakes.
Winter is such a quiet season. Of course there are occasional snow storms that inconvenience us with power outages and hazardous driving, but the overall dormancy of winter is one of the most peaceful things I know.
It has begun. With the arrival of this cold and snow white season I hope to become revitalized as I have in past winters. It’s time to throw on a bulky sweater and heat up a pan of milk for a steaming cup of cocoa. These moments of warm silence in a cold world fill me with gratitude.
Your warm, cozy, words fill me with gratitude to have you as a friend. 🙂
What was it like to witness the birth of winter? Was it humbling? Illuminating? Energizing?
Oh aren’t you so nice. I’m glad to have you as a friend too.
The “birth” of winter was fun to see, but I was really tired. It was 3:15 a.m.!! I think the feeling I had was relieved, thinking, “it’s finally here!” I was happy to see it.
Snug in on your big couch with your friend Hoover, have The Professor light a fire, and enjoy the winter season with me!
I love to hunker down and get cozy during this time of year, too. Beautiful candle–I assume you made it. 🙂
Of course I made the candle! It’s been sitting on the shelf for a long time so I thought I’d burn it myself. I call it Island Escape and has the aromas of coconut, lime, and verbena.
I hope your move is going well and that you can cozy up soon!
Gorgeous post Sara a good time to write I always say, but i say that any chance I get. Yet I struggle to get any writing done chasing kids, art and life.
