Snack Time

I first heard about this snack from my mom.  When she told me about it I thought, really?  I couldn’t imagine it to be much of anything.  Then when I got my hair done I saw a bowl of it on the reception counter at the salon.  My hairdresser encouraged me to try some, so I did.  I knew immediately why my mom wanted to spread the news about this taste treat.

Dry roasted peanuts and candy corn. That’s it. I mixed equal parts of each and found it to be most delicious combination of sweet and salty. It tastes like a salted nut roll. And the colors are so autumny!  The bowl of my snack mix went perfectly with the autumn anniversary flowers Husby gave me.

I love having snack mix out for company, even if my company consists only of Captain Jack Sparrow on my TV screen. Do you have a favorite recipe for snack mix? Please share!

Oktoberfest

All hail the Germans for beginning what has become famous worldwide:  Oktoberfest.  A Bavarian tradition since 1810, Oktoberfest has been copied in cities all over the world.

It began as a celebration of the marriage of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese on October 12, 1810 (Hey! Same wedding date as Husby and me!) and has gone on to be a tradition in Germany ever since.  In many areas Oktoberfest mutated into and overstated excuse to drink lots of beer.  And why not?!  Excuses are the foundation of every vice and if we indulge but once a year, who’s to cast aspersions?

I’m going to be participating in an Oktoberfest myself ~  Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge is having their annual Oktoberfest this coming weekend, October 21-23.   The festivities will include not only beer drinking but also German music (let’s polka!), lots of food, and entertainment for the kids.  On Saturday, October 22 there will be an Arts & Crafts Fair where you’ll find me and my wares, along with dozens of other artists and crafters.  Can you think of a better place to start your Christmas shopping?

Come on up to Deerwood, MN this weekend and see what all the ruckus is about.  Oh, and have a beer while you’re at it ~ Prince Ludwig would.

The Guys And Their Big Trucks

It was a big day at the Auntie B’s Wax World Headquarters. Finally, at long last, The Guys came over to put in our new driveway.

The Guys made our house the exciting spot of the day.  The neighbors had to drive by slowly because of all the equipment and big trucks parked in front of our house.  At first I thought they might be cursing the vehicular clutter, but then figured they were green with envy, wishing they were the ones getting a new driveway.

Husby was having tons of fun watching The Guys do their job. He sat and watched, awestruck by the cool trucks and bobcats and said, “at times like this I’m just a three-year-old boy.”

I liked the board shoes. It was quite refreshing to see with all of that equipment one of The Guys slipped on the board shoes and manually stamped down on the asphalt. Oh sure, there was a big, loud mechanical stamper, as well as a heavy roller, but apparently stamping by foot while wearing board shoes is an important part of the process.

It was all quite exciting.  When The Guys finished the project they waved goodbye, climbed into their big trucks and drove off down the road.  For the rest of the day Husby and I found ourselves looking out the windows admiring our new driveway.  It doesn’t take much to make us smile.

Yum

Eat your heart out, Kraft…
