This month I’m doing a 30-day song challenge following the prompts given by Donna from MyOBT, one of my favorite blogs. It sounded like so much fun I couldn’t resist. Feel free to join in on your social media platform, add your picks in the comments below, or simply enjoy (hopefully) the music I’ve chosen.
I remember having a sleepover at a friend’s house. I was in 4th grade. I thank that nine-year-old girl for introducing me to music radio. I’d never known more than talk/news radio before, and the music I knew was of my parents’ era. During the sleepover at her house we listened to the radio, WDGY (1130 am), while pretending toothpicks were cigarettes, feeling all sophisticated.
That night lives in my brain as the night I really discovered music. Contemporary music I’d never known before. That girl would be surprised to know what an impact she had on me as we eventually parted ways into completely different spheres of life. She’d probably be surprised that she taught me to love contemporary music, and I can’t see her appreciating all of the music I had come to love as a result of the one sleepover night at her house. Despite that, I’m grateful to her for opening up my world when I was nine years old.
