Some people think living in Minnesota in the wintertime is impossible, like we’re all going to freeze to death or something. I suppose if you live in the tropics a temperature of 0 degrees F. (and frequently below 0) would seem enough to freeze a person’s blood right in its veins, but we all survive somehow.
I don’t mind cold weather, and I don’t mind snow. In fact I like them both. But today, after spending a nine-day holiday away from the day job, the snow and cold temperature slapped me in the face to shake me from my dreamy vacation frame of mind. I returned to the doldrums of the day job, and spent my time counting the hours until the weekend. Surviving a Minnesota winter is simple compared to having the snow and ice abruptly turn off my vacation mode.

Grey winter day in the city.
I am sorry to have liked this post. It’s just that I SO relate to it! It’s been so darn cold here, too. And I just got back from a nice vacation in Georgia where the high was 55 degrees each day. We’ll get through the winter, Sara, we will…
I pity you! It’s one thing to watch winter from the warm house, but quite another to be taken from a warmer climate and thrust back into the cold. I’m sure you’ll get used to it soon enough. After two days of going to the day job I feel quite capable of managing it all. Good luck!
Ugh, I know just what you’re saying! Wonderful that you got away, Sara, but oh, what a winter to come back to! Stay warm…and Happy New Year!
Well, Cindy, I didn’t really “get away” from the winter, but stayed sheltered from it with many days in the house. Being forced into the cold, dark air to go to work is just inhumane. Makes me want to retire that much more. Happy New Year to you too, Cindy!
Oh, I see. Yes, it is awful to have to go out when the temperatures are this low! And only the first of January…this is promising to be a very long winter!
