Don’t Bug Me, I’ve Been Busy

All right, so I got off easy by creating only one post this week (besides this one).  It was a Wordless Wednesday too ~ what’s the effort in putting up a measly picture?  Don’t bug me, I’ve been busy.

1.  I’ve been failing miserably doing my best to get Halloween magnets up in my Etsy shop and in other assorted venues.  My goal was to have them set up six weeks before Halloween.  So far I’m a week behind.

2.  I had a certain medical procedure that required days of agonizing preparation but resulted in an excellent outcome and a most dreamy drug-induced sleep.

3.  It’s show time again and I’ve been packaging and labeling my little heart out.

Tomorrow I’ll be at the Chateau St. Croix Winery and Vineyard selling my wares.  It’s going to be a beautiful weekend, weatherwise.  Husby and I will be in our little booth, dancing to the music, visiting with our craft show friends, and have a sip or two of wine.  My favorite part of doing live shows is watching people’s reactions to my offerings.

When I’m done having fun at the winery I’ll have a few weeks to get ready for what will probably be the biggest and most demanding shows I’ve ever done.  We’ll talk more about that at another time.  For now I’m looking forward to a nice weekend after what has proven to be a very busy week.  Come on over to St. Croix Falls, WI and see me!

Ahead Of Schedule And Right On Time

The busy season is upon me.  I know, because it’s dark before 9:00 p.m. and the blistering hot temperatures are starting to run out of steam.

I’ve been in the crafty business for a while now, and I’m still not used to the fact that I have to be ahead of the busy season.  That means thinking about Christmas in June.   That means getting seasonal products out for sale at least six weeks before the season is actually here.

This year I’m sort of getting the hang of it.  For instance, I’m going to be putting my Halloween bottle cap magnets in shops next week.  That includes my Etsy shop.  I’ll be listing them a little at a time throughout a couple of weeks.  They’re really cute!  Here’s a sample of what you’ll see:

Many of my holiday magnets are inspired by vintage post cards. Why not stop by the shop and check them out. If you’d like a bunch of them be sure to find the listing for six or twelve magnets of your choice and get a great deal.

Coming To A Close

Guess what?  Today is the last day of the Minnesota State Fair.  The art, crafts, food, and animals have  been judged.  The performers have performed, the rides have given thrills and everything-on-a-stick has been eaten.  After today the fairgrounds buildings will be closed and the thousands of people that crowded the streets will have vanished back to their lives outside those sacred three hundred square acres.

Images of the fair will linger in my mind for weeks to come.  Who could forget canoeing raccoons?

And what could be more nostalgic than an old-fashioned side-show? “They’re all alive on the inside!” The headless woman, the human blockhead who hammers nails into his head, the woman who, before your very eyes, turns into an 800-pound gorilla!  The best  part of the side-show is the ballyhoo outside the tent, giving us a free taste of what we can see inside.

The people watching at the fair is phenomenal too.   Sometimes you see people you knew from years ago.  Sometimes you see people who look just like Rod Stewart.  Hey, maybe that really is Rod Stewart!

And speaking of music, the state fair is the best place to go if you want to hear some old-time cowboy music and to watch the ghouls dance.

Freddy, Scary Clown, Elvis and Michael Jackson dancing at the Haunted House. The Burger King is dancing with the monsters and the dead, as he is about the scariest creature there is.

September brings the beginning of autumn, the beginning of a new school year, and for my nephew Fojo, the beginning of adulthood. (Happy Birthday Fojo!) The sun will set on the Minnesota State Fair today, bringing to us a new season and 365 days to anticipate next year’s fair.
